Today, most of the mysteries of space have been solved by the space research organization NASA with its advanced technology. In May 2023, NASA is going to launch a satellite called TEMPO into space. The full name of TEMPO is Tropospheric Emission Monitoring of Pollution Instrument. It is expected to be launched in June. To make this satellite functional, NASA has developed a high-quality instrument, which will give scientists all the information about Earth's air quality from space. In collaboration with Elon Musk's SpaceX, This air quality monitor satellite called TEMPO launched on April 7.
• What will this satellite be used for?
According to NASA'S report, TEMPO is the first satellite on earth capable of testing a large air pollutant area of four square miles per hour. The U.S. Space Agency posted on Twitter that TEMPO would report hourly air quality in North America. It will monitor the three main pollutants and warn about the most polluted places in the city.
The main task of TEMPO Satelite will be to generate data on the three main pollutants. The first one is Nitrogen Dioxide, the second one is Formaldehyde, and the third one is Ozone. Nitrogen dioxide is a toxic gas, which is released through the burning of any fuel. Formaldehyde is a byproduct of paint, glue, and gasoline. When ozone levels rise, the sun's ultraviolet rays can have a harmful effect on your skin, causing diseases such as skin cancer.
• How will this TEMPO satellite work?
According to NASA, one special instruments have been installed in TEMPO, which will pass over North America every hour during the daytime, that is, in the light, and will record the level of air pollution in an area of 10 square kilometers each time. It would travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and from Central Canada to Mexico City. This tempo satellite is made by an aerospace that looks like a large washing machine.
Barry Lefer, a NASA program scientist at TEMPO, said that with the launch of this satellite, we will know the exact location of pollution in North America every hour. And in addition to monitoring air pollution, we will also get accurate information about how much pollution is spreading. Not only that, it will also be possible to warn the American people about areas where there will be more pollution.
