E-rickshaws are growing in popularity in India. It is an eco-friendly, lightweight vehicle that travels less roads. E-rickshaws have become quite popular in the last few years in Mofussil cities. The number of e-rickshaws is gradually increasing in metro cities as well.
Apart from the well-known Indian companies in the domestic market, several smaller companies manufacture e-rickshaws. German automaker Audi is set to launch three types of e-rickshaws in the Indian market. The most amazing thing is that these rickshaws will run on the batteries of car maker Audi's electric car 'e-tron'.
E-tron is one of the popular electric cars. But the batteries of those cars have to be replaced after a certain period of time. What will Audi do with old batteries? To find that way, Audi has started working hand in hand with a German-Indian startup 'Nunam'. The company is testing whether those old batteries can be used in e-rickshaws.
Car batteries are made in such a way that they can be used for many days. Tests have shown that old batteries can be used for a few more days in light vehicles. This initiative by Audi is expected to further increase the popularity of e-rickshaws in India. It will also be good for the environment, as e-rickshaws emit no polluting gases.
A new startup in India, Nunam, plans to launch e-rickshaws powered by Audi e-tron batteries used in India. These e-rickshaws are eco-friendly and will help reduce fossil fuel dependency.
"We believe that recycling used batteries is a great way to reduce the pressure on our natural resources and protect the environment," said Pradeep Chattopadhyay, founder of Nunam.
E-rickshaws in India currently use high density batteries, which have a very short lifespan. When they become old there is not much that can be done except throw them away. Charging them also requires large amounts of electricity, increasing the pressure on fossil fuels in India.
Nunam's e-rickshaws will be charged with solar-powered charging stations. This will help reduce fossil fuel dependence and protect the environment.Nunam's e-rickshaws will hit Indian roads in early 2023 through a pilot project. If this pilot project is successful, Nunam's e-rickshaws will be widely sold in India.
Nunam's e-rickshaws are a great opportunity to transform the transport system in India. They are environment friendly, will help reduce fossil fuel dependence and improve the standard of living of people in India.
